Walter James Brudenell was born in 1890, he was the son of the late James a general labourer and Eliza Brudenell née Goodliff of Shirehill, Oundle, Northamptonshire. James was born in 1861 at Fen Stanton, Huntingdon, he died in 1905 aged 47 yrs, Eliza Goodliff was born in 1865 at Alconbury, married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Huntingdon registration district, they went on to have the following children, Hebert b1888 Alconbury, Walter b1890 Woodwalton, their remaining children were all born in Bulwick, Rachel b1893, Frederick b1895 , Ellen b1896, William b1898, Alice b1900,Jane b1902 and Hilda b1905 In 1911 the family are living at Shirehill, Oundle, Eliza Brudenell 47 yrs a widow, she is living with her children, Herbert 23 yrs a cowman on a farm, Walter 20 yrs a horseman on a farm, Rachel 18 yrs no occupation, Frederick 16 yrs a farm labourer, William 13 yrs a scholar, Alice 11 yrs a scholar, Jane 9 yrs a scholar and Hilda 6 yrs of age Walter James married Mabel Sims in 1914 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow Registration district, they lived at Old Cross, Market Place, Long Eaton, they went on to have a son Leslie Walter Brudenell in 1915. Commencing 10th September 1916 his widow Mabel was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week Mabel later married Edmund Tatham in 1917.
he was a farm horseman.

Ptrivate Walter James Brudenell, enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Long Eaton, He landed in France on 14th July 1915 and he was killed in action on 3rd March 1916 his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium
