Harry Hooley Daykin was born in 1890 he was the son of James a railway waggon worker and Elizabeth Daykin née Hampson and the brother of Horace Hampson Daykin. James was born in 1849 at Stapleford, Elizabeth Hampson was born in 1850 at Ilkeston, they were married on 20th November 1883 at Casterton, Westmorland, they went on to have 5 children, sadly three died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family lived at 8 Harriett Street Stapleford Nottinghamshire, James 62 yrs is railway wagon worker he is living with his wife Elizabeth 61 yrs and their 2 sons Harry Hooley 20 yrs a general labourer and Horace Hampton 14 yrs an iron moulder.
In 1911 he was a general labourer.

Rifleman Harry Hooley Daykin enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Stapleford, he served wit the 2nd battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 9th September 1916 and is buried at Caterpillar Valley Cemetery, Longueval, France
