William was born in 1893 in Everton and was the son of Wilson , a general servant and Annie Wilson who lived at Everton . In the 1901 census the family are living at Brewery Road, Everton, Wilson and Annie are with their son William P aged 8 years and daughter Florence M 6 years of age.

William enlisted in Retford in August 1914 giving his place of birth as Everton. At first he served with service number 13232 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derbys) Regiment, he later transferred to the 1st battalion , Northumberland Fusiliers. He first went to France on 1st July 1915. He was killed in action on 13th December 1917 , he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras memorial, France.
Pte W P Richardson Retford Times 18 th January 1918 This gallant young soldier of Everton was killed in France in action on 13th Dec 1917. He was 25 years of age and joined up in August 1914. He was the first one in the village to volunteer and did most of his training at Grantham. He was wounded three times and was again sent out in June of last year. A memorial service was held for the deceased soldier on Wednesday week in the Parish Church, when the vicar, the Rev A Rose, spoke of him as one who was popular and highly esteemed in the village
