Frederick Bird was born in 1886 at Basford and was the son of Henry a joiner and Mary Bird née Parnwell of 16 Gauntley Street, Nottingham. His father Henry Bird was born in 1842 at Lincoln, his mother Mary Parnwell was born in 1847 at Elsworth, Cambridgeshire, they wee married in 1870 their marriage was recorded in the Biggleswade registration district, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, their children were Edward b1872 Sandy, Bedfordshire, their remaining children were all born in Basford and were Henry 1873, Beatrice 1876, Ann 1879, Leonard b1881, Henry Ferguson b1884, Fred b1886 and Alfred b1889. In the 1911 census the family are living at 21 Sandon Street, New Basford and are shown as Henry Bird 69 yrs a joiner, he is living with his wife Mary 64 yrs and their children, Edward 38 yrs single a lace maker, Henry 38 yrs a plumber, Fred 25 yrs a hosiery trimmer and Alfred dyers labourer in hosiery trade.
In the 1911 census he is a hosiery trimmer.

12th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Frederick Bird enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 12th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and was attached to the 21st trench mortar battery. He was killed in action on 20th August 1918 and is buried at Kooigem Cemetery, Belgium
