Basford
John was born in 1884 in Basford and was the son of the late George Alfred a twist hand and Alma Booth née Spinks. His father was born in 1861 in Sheffield , his mother Alma Sinks was born in 1865 in Derbyshire. They were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district , they had a further son Ernest born 1887 Basford and adopted a daughter Jenny Chester born 1879 in Derbyshire. He was the husband of Ethel Booth née Wright (born 30th August 1886) whom he had married in 1904 in Nottingham and they lived at 8 Cobden Terrace Plimsoll Street Hyson Green Nottingham they went on to have 3 children, George Alfred born 26th May 1905, John born 6th January 1909 and James born 10th February 1914. In the 1911 census the family are living at 19 Brassey Street, Radford, and are shown as John 27 yrs a colliery worker working underground, he is living with the his wife Ethel 25yrs and their two sons George 5 yrs and John 2 yrs. Following hs death his widow Ethel was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence a day which commenced on 20th March 1916

6th Bn Royal Munster Fusiliers
Pte. John Booth, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 6th Battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 15th August 1915. His name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.
In memoriam published 18th August 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BOOTH. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Private Jack Booth, R.M.F., killed in action August 15th, 1915. One long sad year has passed away, since one we loved was called away. – From his loving wife and sons, and mother.” Above in memoriam is courtesy of Jim Grundy and his facebook pages Small Town Great War Hucknall 1914-1918
