Bertie Fletcher was born in 1893 at Lenton and was the son of Joseph a coal miner (holer) and Eliza Fletcher of 11 Ashwell Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. His father Joseph was born in 1871 at Radford, his mother Eliza was born in 1870 at Nottingham, they were married C1890 and had 6 children, 2 of whom died in infancy or early childhood, their children were Bert b1893, George b1895 and Edwin b1902. In the 1911 census the family were living at 11 Ashwell Street, Hyson Green and were shown as Joseph Fletcher 40 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Eliza 41 yrs and their children, Bert 18 yrs a cotton winder, George 16 yrs a chemical manufacturer and Edwin 9 yrs of age a scholar.
In the 1911 census he is shown as a cotton winder.

1st Bn King's Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment)
Private Bertie Fletcher enlisted at Nottingham, he intially served with the service number 91893 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was later transferred to the 1st battalion King's Own (Royal Lancashire Regiment) and was killed in action on 2nd September 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois, France.
