Robert William Gunn was born in 1891 in Nottingham and was the son of John Thomas a leather dresser and Christiana Gunn née Miller of 15 Beaconfield Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. His father John Thomas was born in 1869 in Nottingham and his mother Christina Miller was born in 1871 in Grantham, they were married in 1899 in Nottingham and went on to have 6 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy their surviving children were all born in Nottingham and were Nellie b1890, Robert William b1891,Hetty b1894, Edith b1900 ad Thomas Edward b1909. In the 1911 census the family are living at 19 Plimsoll Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham and are shown as John Thomas 42 yrs a leather dresser he is living with his wife Christina 40 yrs and their children Nellie 21 yrs a box maker in a cigar factory, Robert William 19 yrs a draughtsman , Hetty 17 yrs a machinist, Edith 11 yrs a scholar and Thomas Edward 2 yrs.

5th Coy Tank Corps
Private Robert William Gunn, enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with service number 3225 in the Royal Scots Regiment later transferring to the 5th Company Tank Corps, he died of wounds on 29th April 1918. He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
In memoriam published 29th April 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “GUNN. – In loving memory of our dear son, Pte. R. W. (Bob) Gunn, died of wounds April 29th, 1918. A day of remembrance sad to recall.
