Fred Milton was born in 1895 at Birmingham and was the son of Mary Milton a char woman of 8 Percy Terrace, Birkin Avenue, Nottingham. His mother Mary was born in 1862 in Worcestershire, she had other children, Albert b1889 Oxford, and Edith b1892 Cookley, Kidderminster. In the 1911 census the family are living at 73 Denison Street, Radford, Nottingham and are shown as Mary Milton 49 yrs a widow and charwoman, she is living with her children, Albert 22 yrs a tailor, Frederick 16 yrs a doffer in the cotton trade and Edith 19 yrs a jennier in lace trade. Mary states she has been married for 26 yrs and has had 4 children.
Frederick is a doffer in the lace trade in the 1911 census.

17th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Frederick Milton enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing in Hyson Green, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 3rd September 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thievpal memorial, Some, France.
