James Frank Stocks was born in 1890 at Nottingham and was the son of Frank a caretaker and Fanny Stocks née Abbey of 55 Bobbers Mill Road, Nottingham. His father Frank was born in 1865 at Basford, his mother Fanny Abbey was born in 1856 at Clapham, Middlesex, they were married in 1886 at Nottingham and went on to have 11 children, sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood, their children were , James Frank b189, Annie Gertrude b1894, Charles Cecil b1896, Constance Jennie b1897 and Harold Stocks b1904 all were born in Hyson Green. In the 1911 census the family lived at 55 Bobbers Mill Road Nottingham and were shown as Frank 46 yrs a caretaker, he is living with his wife Fanny 55 yrs and their children, James Frank 21 yrs a card puncher, Annie Gertrude 17 yrs a lace pattern girl, Charles Cecil 15 yrs no occupation listed, Constance Jennie 14 yrs a lace pattern girl and Harold 7 yrs of age. James Frank married his wife Lillian Blanche Ife (born 12th December 1892 ) in 1913 at Nottingham, they lived at 43 Bridlington Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. Following his death his widow Lillian was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 19th November 1917.
In 1911 he was a card puncher.

8th (Service) Bn South Staffordshire Regiment
Private James Frank Stocks enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Long Eaton, he served with the 8th battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, he died of his wounds on 1st May 1915 and is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery.
