He was the son of Harry and Mary (née Wells) Comery and the brother of Beatrice, Elsie, Alfred, William and Doris Comery. In 1911 they lived at 15 Park Street New Lenton Nottingham.
In 1911 he was a carriage hand.

Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery West Vlaanderen Belgium Grave Reference: 1.A.15 Ernest's father Harry Comery attested 30/8/1915 aged 44 and served (T4/145859) with the Army Service Corps. He died in service during 1921 and Mary was awarded a weekly pension of 9/7d (Harry Comery's Army Service Record).
