Lenton Nottingham
Albert Hooton was born in 1886 at Lenton and was the son of George and Amelia Hooton née Tizley. His father George was born in 1863 at Sneinton and his mother Amelia Tizley was born in 1859 at Wollaton. They were married in 1883 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Albert b1886, Ellen b1887 and Annie b1890. All the children were born in Nottingham. Albert married Edith Allison Faulkner (born Sneinton 1st January 1887) in 1908 at Nottingham and went on to have the following children, Leslie Gordon Albert born 5th March 1909, Grace Edna born 27th July 1911 and George Thomas born 6th November 1913. They lived initially at 24 City Road, Dunkirk, but in the 1911 census the family was living at 28 Marcus Street, Lenton Nottingham and shown as Albert Hooton 25 yrs a goods porter, his wife Edith 25 yrs and their son Leslie 2 yrs of age. Also living with them are his widowed father-in-law Thomas Faulkner 56 yrs a bricklayers labourer and his sister-in-law Lizzie Faulkner 22 yrs a curtain taper. Following his death Albert's widow Edith Allison was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 6 pence which commenced on 21st June 1915.
He was a machinist when he enlisted in 1904, He was a railway goods porter in the 1911 census

1st Bn Grenadier Guards
Private Albert Hooton enlisted at Nottingham on 29th April 1904 and served with the 1st battalion Grenadier Guards He landed in France on 6th October 1914 and was killed in action on 26th October 1914. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium (Panels 9 and 11).
