His original serial number 4/3777 appears to have been issued early 1914 - 3544 joined on 9th May 1913 and 3883 joined on 1st August 1914. His service may have been with 2/4th or 3/4th Battalion, followed by the 4th (Reserve) Battalion. He was renumbered 201251. He was transferred to the Labour Corps between June and September 1917.
