He was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Mottishaw and the brother of Herbert, Beatrice, Arthur and Frederick Mottishaw. In 1911 they lived at 24 Church Street Lenton Nottingham. Robert and Elizabeth later lived at Captain Albert Ball VC Memorial Homes Lenton Nottingham.
In 1911 he was a clerk.
