Bernard Francis was born in 1896 the son of Samuel a railway signalman who died in 1899 and Naomi Pilgrim (née Covel). His father was born in 1854 at Marston Moreteyne Bedfordshire, his mother at Lessingham Lincolnshire in 1857. They were married in 1883 at Nottingham and had nine children one of whom died in infancy. Bernard’s surviving siblings, all born in Lenton, were Walter b.1879, Minnie b.1881, Ernest b.1884, Lillian b.1889, Hilda b.1892, Percy b.1894, Harold b.1895 and Florence b.1899. The family lived at 23 Chippendale Street, Lenton, Nottingham in 1891, 1901 and 1911 .

Bernard Francis Pilgrim enlisted at Nottingham and landed in France on 24th July 1915. He is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial Panel 61 to 64
Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 24th March 1919 :- “PILGRIM. – In loving memory of Rfn.
