William Edward Matthew Sisson known as 'Edward' was born in 1896 the son of Jarvis a coal miner contractor and Frances Eleanor Sisson née Burrows of the 8 Alms Houses, Arnold Lane, Gedling. Jarvis was born in 1869 at Selston, Frances Eleanor Burrows was born in 1872 at Bulwell, they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 2 other children, Sarah b1894 Bulwell and Eva Gladys b1909 at Mapperley. In 1911 the family are living at Maitland Road, Mapperley, Jarvis is 42 yrs of age and a coal miner contractor and William Edward is 16 yrs and a coal miner hewer

Machine Gun Corps
Private William Edward Sisson served as Edward Sisson and enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 1907 in the South Notts Hussars. He was killed in action on 4th October 1918 whilst serving with the Machine Gun Corps and is buried at Unicorn Cemetery, Vendhuile Cemetery, France.
He is shown on the Mapperley war memorial as E SISSONS
