Arthur Cyril Levers was born in 1898 at Nottingham and was the son of John William a storeman and Florence Levers née Best of 49, Gawthorne St., New Basford, Nottingham His father John William Levers was born in 1869 at Nottingham, his mother Florence Best was born in 1873 at Chard Somerset, they were married in 1892 in Nottingham and went on to have 4 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their children were all born in Nottingham and were Millicent Florence b1896, Arthur Cyril b1898 and Phyllis Murial b1908. In the 1911 census the family are living at 17 Constance Street, Basford and are shown as John William Levers 42 yrs a store hopper in cotton works, he is living with his wife Florence 38 yrs and their children Millicent Florence 15 yrs a bender in the tobacco trade, Arthur Cyril 13 yrs a scholar and Phyllis Murial 3 yrs.

Sergeant Arthur Cyril Levers enlisted on 20th April 1915 at Nottingham, he lied about his age, giving his age as 19 yrs and 1 month (born in 1898 and only 13 in the 1911)census he was only 17 yrs of age. He gave his address as 49 Gawthorne St, Basford and his occupation as a hosiery factory hand. He was posted to the Sherwood Foresters and later transferred to the East Yorkshire Regiment, he was promoted to Corporal on 13th October 1915. He was admitted to the Military Hospital at Ripon on 23rd October 1918 suffering from Influenza and died on 1st November 1918. He body was returned to his relatives and is buried in New Basford Cemetery, Nottingham. m. N.8.29
