Percy Hart was born in 1897 at Nottingham and was the son of Samuel a carter and Jane Hart née Burnett of 4 Close Terrace, Arnold Road, Old Basford, Nottingham. His father Samuel was born in 1860 at Nottingham, his mother Jane Burnett was born in 1858 at Birmingham, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have 7 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their children were , Samuel b1884, Ernest b1885, Thomas b1887, Herbert b1892, Arthur b1895 and Percy b1897 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 4 Close Terrace, Arnold Road, Old Basford and are shown as Samuel Hart 51 yrs a carter, he is living wit his wife Jane 53 yrs and their children, Herbert 19 yrs a coal carter, Arthur 16 yrs a railway porter and Percy 14 yrs a scholar.

2nd Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Percy Hart enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Basford, he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action between17th and 19th September 1918. He is buried at Chapelle British Cemetery, Holnon
His brother Arthur Hart also served during the 'Great War' he enlisted on 26th April 1915 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 20 yrs and 10 months his address was 4 Close Terrace, Arnold Road, Old Basford, he stated he was a railway loader. He was posted with the service number 23416 into the Royal Field Artillery. He landed embarked from Southampton on 11th January 1916 arriving at Le Harve the following day. He served throughout the war and was discharged to the reserves on 15th June 1919.
