Charles Henry Jackson was born in 1873 at Wickham, Suffolk and was the son of Forest Jillings Jackson an engine driver and Ellen Jackson née Chambers of Wickham, Suffolk. Charles Henry married his wife Annie Louisa Applegate (born 28th July 1880) on 19th May 1901 at St Mary's Church, Bethnall Green, London, they went on to have the following children, Charles George Forest born 29th April 1902 in Surrey, Edith Elizabeth Ellen 4th March 1905 in Tottenham and Harold Henry born 14th July 1908, they lived at 14 Wilton Terrace, Old Basford, Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 9 Heighington Grove, Wallis Street, Old Basford and are shown as Charles 36 yrs a railway platelayer for the Great Northern Railway he is living with his wife Annie 31 yrs and their children, George 9 yrs, Edith 7 yrs and Harold 3 yrs. Following his death his widow Annie was awarded a pension of 26 shilings and 3 pence a week which commenced on 2nd July 1917

15th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Charles Henry Jackson, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 15th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 2nd November 1916 by German shellfire, whilst serving in the line near Arras, France. He is buried at Roclincourt Valley Cemetery (grave ref IV. F. 6.).
Nottingham Post obituary (abridged) 2 March 1917: 'Jackson, missing since November 2nd [1916]now officially killed in action, Private Charles Jackson, husband of Annie Jackson, Wilton Terrace, Basford. Wife and children.'
