George Richard was born in 1886 the son of George and Frances Young. He was christened at Coddington Church on 29 Apr 1886. George, a malster, died in 1892 aged 51 at Newark. George married Julia Ada Holloway on 27th October 1906 at Newark and they had four children : - George Leslie born 12th April 1907, Elsie Olive born 9th December 1909, Bertha May born 5th September 1914 and Charles William born 26th June 1916. In 1911 the family lived at 22 George Street Lover's Lane Newark Nottinghamshire. For herself and four children, Julia received a weekly pension of 20s/- with effect from 19/6/1918. She married Thomas White in 1918 and they lived at 40a Park Street Crooks Yard Wombell Barnsley.
In 1911 he was a malster's labourer and later a horseman.

2/7th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
George enlisted on 11th December 1915 in Newark. He was placed into the reserves the following day. On 9th August 1916 he was mobilised and was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and served on the home front . He was in hospital with bronchitis between in February 1917 and again between 25 March 1917 and 31 March 1917. On 3rd May 1917 he embarked for France from Folkstone disembarking at Boulogne the same day. Tyne Cot Memorial Panels 99 to 102 and 162 to 162A
