Frederick Cecil Ward was born on 28th April 1888 at Letton Green, Norfolk he was baptised on 3rd June 1888 at Southburgh parish church Norfolk, he was the son of Charles a farm worker and Harriett Ward née Garner of Norfolk. His father Charles was born in 1859 at Carbrooke, Norfolk, his mother Harriett Garner was born in 1863 at Letton, Norfolk, they were married on 4th November 1882 at Cranworth with Letton and went on to have the following children, William James b1885, Southburgh, Alice Helen b1886 Southburgh, Fred Cecil b1888 Letton and Ethel Elizabeth b1891 Letton. In the 1911 census Fred has left the family home he is shown as being 23 yrs of age, single and a baker, he is living with Sarah Jane Brookes a widow at 146 Northgate, Basford. In the same 1911 census his father is living at Letton Green, Shipdham, Norfolk he is shown as Charles 52 yrs a farm worker , he is living with his daughter Alice Ward 25 yrs house keeping for her father. Frederick married his wife Catherine Emily Whitworth (born 8th January 1890 )in 1915 at Nottingham, they lived at 78 Park Lane, Basford. Following his death his widow Catherine was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 7th April 1919
In the 1911 census he is a baker.

63rd Bn Machine Gun Corps
Lance Corporal Frederick Cecil Ward enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 55868 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He later transferred to the 63rd battalion Machine Guns Corps, when he was killed in action on the 3rd September 1918. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Artois Memorial
