James Arthur Little was born in 1888 at Everton and was the son of James a farmer and Annie Little née Briggs of Eakring. His father James was born in 1856 at Waltham, Lincolnshire, his mother Annie Briggs was born in 1860 at Everton, they were married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the East Retford registration district, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 5 died in infancy or early childhood, their children listed on the 1901/1911 census were, Gertrude b1885, James Arthur b1888, William Percy b1895, George Briggs b1898 and Everard b1900 all were born in Everton except Everad who was born in Eakring. In the the 1911 census the family are living in Eaking village and are shown as James 55 yrs a farmer, he is living with his wife Annie 51 yrs and their children, Gertrude 26 yrs no occupation listed, James Arthur 23 yrs a farmers son working on the farm, William Percy 16 yrs a farmers son working on the farm, George Briggs 13 yrs a scholar and Everard 11 yrs a scholar.
He was a member of Eakring St Andrew's church choir

9th Bn Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment)
Private James Arthur Little enlisted at Southwell whilst residing at Newark, he initially served with the service number 45350 Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment). He was killed in action whilst serving witht he 9th battalion Royal Scots, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.
