Ephraim Rabbitt was born in 1896 the son of Joseph and a woodman labourer and his second wife the late Hannah Rabbitt née Robinson of Hazel Grove Edwinstowe, Joseph was born in in 1846 at Kempston, Bedfordshire, Hannah was born in 1860 at Warsop, she died in 1906 aged 46 yrs, maried in 1879 at Mansfield they had 9 children, including Maggie b1887 Walter b1898 (killed in action 8/10/1918), and Lewis Rabbitt. In 1911 they lived at 7 Hazel Grove Edwinstowe Nottinghamshire both Joseph and Ephraim are woodman labourers

1/8th Bn Durham Light Infantry
Corporal Ephraim Rabbitt enlisted on 27th November 1915 at Worksop, giving his age as 20 yrs and his occupation as that of labourer. He joined the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry at Pontefract on 30th November 1915. He landed in France on 6th October 1916 and was serving with the Durham Light Infantry when he was wounded on 25th April 1917 and died as a result of his wounds that day. He is buried at Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux, Pas de Calais, France. 1.C.16
His brother Private Walter Rabbitt enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Newark, he died of wounds on 8th October 1918 and is buried at Doingt Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Plot 3. Row A. Grave 22.
