Bernard Rodgers was born in 1890 the son of Charles a general labourer and Alice Ann Rodgers née Peatman of High Street, Edwinstow. Charles was born in 1867 at Sheffield and Alice Ann Peatman was born in 1868 also in Sheffield, married in 1889 in Sheffield and went on to have 9 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood prior to 1911, their surviving children were , Bernard b1890 Sheffield Elsie b1890 Sheffield, Sydney b1896 Sheffield, Ernest Peatman b1903 Edwinstow, Clarence b1904 Edwinstow and Phyllis Ada Rodgers b1904 Edwinstow. In 1911 the family are living at Town Street, Edwinstowe and are shown as Charles a general labourer, he is living with his wife Alice Ann and their children, Bernard a farm labourer horseman, Sydney a general farm labourer, Elsie a scholar, Ernest Peatman a scholar, Clarence a scholar and Phyllis Ada

1st Bn Seaforth Highlanders (Ross–shire Buffs, The Duke of Albany's)
Private Bernard Rodgers served with the 1st battalion Seaforth Highlanders, he enlisted at Nottingham and died on 11th September 1914 he is commemorated on the Delhi Memorial (India Gate), India and buried Karachi Cemetry . A/D. M. 16.
His younger brother Private Sydney Rodgers enlisted at Worksop whilst residing at Edwinstowe. He served with the 8th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and died of wounds on 28th February 1916 and is buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France. 2.C.187
