Father: Arthur John Cresswell, born in 1865 at Nottingham and working as a framework knitter. Mother: Annie Matilda Cresswell, born in 1867 in Nottingham. Brothers:Harold J. born in 1892 and working as a telephone mechanic, Walter Arthur, born in 1894 and working as a building contractor's clerk and Alfred Neville, born in June 1900. Sister: Ida A., born in 1896. All the children were born in Nottingham. The family lived at 5, Hudson Street, Nottingham (C. 1901) before moving to 67 Port Arthur Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.
Frank Cresswell worked as an architect's pupil.

Leicestershire Regiment
Cresswell was called up for service and attested on 20/03/1918 at Nottingham. Following training he was drafted to France, where he was transferred from the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry No. 3557 to 2/4th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment. On 25/05/1918 he was again transferred this time to ist Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment. The regiment was involved in fighting on the approaches to the Hindenburg Line and was reported as missing on 19/09/1918. His death was not confirmed until 19/09/1919. His body was not recovered but his name was commemorated on the Vis en Artois Memorial.
