Samuel Charles Willies was born in 1897 at Epperstone and was the son of Frederick William a journeyman blacksmith and Sarah Willies née Woodward of 'The Hole' Epperstone. His father Frederick William was born in 1869 at Epperstone and his mother Sarah Woodward was born in 1867 at Kneesall they were married in 1891, their marriage wasa recorded in the Southwell registration district, they went on to have the following children, John Frederick b1894 Mansfield, Samuel Charles b1897 Epperstone, Harry Woodward b1900 Epperstone and Ethel May Willies b1903 Epperstone. In the 1911 census the family lived at 'The Hole' Epperstone Nottinghamshire and were shown as Frederick William Willies 42 yrs a journeyman blacksmith he is living with his wife Sarah 44 yrs and his children John Frederick 17 yrs an apprentice blacksmith, Samuel Charles 14 yrs a farm labourer, Harry Woodward 11 yrs a scholar and Ethel Mary 8 yrs of age.

2nd Bn Northamptonshire Regiment
Private Samuel Charles Willies enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 23160 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 13th Juiy 1915. He was serving with the 2nd battalion Northamptonshire regiment when he was killed in action on 1st August 1915 he is buried at Cambrin Churchyard Extension Pas de Calais, France. P.16
