Father: John Henry Shepherdson, born in 1849 in Nottingham and working as a sawmill wood labourer. Mother: Sarah Ann Shepherdson, born in 1854 at Loughborough, Leicestershire. Brothers: John H., born in 1885 and working as a french polisher and William, born in 1889. Sisters: Mary A., born in 1873 and working as a tailoress finisher, Elizabeth, born in 1874 and working as a tailoress machinist, Fanny, born in 1883 and working as a cigar maker and Mabel, born in 1891 and working as a machinist in a blouse warehouse. Three further children died in infancy. All the children were born in Sneitnton, Nottingham. The family lived at 51 St. Stephen's Road, Sneinton, Nottingham.

Pte. Shepherdson volunteered for service and following training he was drafted to France, arriving on 21/04/1915. He was reported missing in action less than two months later having been involved with the battalion in the Battle of Festubert. It was May 23, 1916 before he was confirmed as dead for all official purposes. His body was never recovered, but his name was commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial (Panels 10 & 11), along with 13,000 other men who have no known grave.
