Person Details
Thomas Cheetham was born in 1896 at Bulwell and was the son of George a colliery deputy/coal miner and Louisa Cheetham née Clayton of 107 Hempshill Lane, Bulwell. His father George was born in 1871 in Bulwell and his mother Louisa Clayton was born in 1869 in Wolverhampton. They were married in 1890, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District; they went on to have 12 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were all born in the Bulwell area and were, Frank b1891, Lizzie b1892, Lucy b1894, Thomas b1896, Gerty b1898, Hilda b1903, William b1905, Lilley b1907 and George b1910. In the 1911 census the family are living at 107 Hempshill Lane, Bulwell, Nottingham, and are shown as George 40 yrs a pit deputy who is living with his wife Louisa 41 yrs and their children, Frank 20 yrs a coal miner, Lizzie 19 yrs a lace mender, Lucy 17 yrs a hosiery brusher, Thomas 15 yrs a miner/ganger, Gerty 13 yrs, Hilda 8 yrs, Willie 6 yrs, Lilley 4 yrs and George 1 year. His mother Louisa died on 9th January 1933 she was 62 yrs of age, his father George died 3rd November 1951 aged 80 yrs.

16th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private 31300 Thomas Cheetham enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 16th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 8th October 1916; having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
