Albert Edward Naylor was born in 1885 in Bulwell and was the son of Alfred, a hosiery trimmer, and Hannah Naylor née Fox of 40 Minerva Street, Bulwell. His father Alfred was born in 1854 in Bulwell and his mother Hannah Fox was born in 1853 in Bulwell. They were married in 1874, the marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, and they went on to have 9 children, sadly one was to die in infancy. Their surviving children were all born in Bulwell and were Charlotte b1875, John b1878, Hannah b1880, Alfred Rufus b1882, Albert Edward b1885, Herbert b 1887, Annie b1889 and Gertrude b1894. Albert Edward married his wife Florence Sail (born 1889 Cinderhill) in 1910 in Nottingham. They went on to have three children, Albert b1911, Herbert b1915 and Irene b1916; all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census Albert and his wife Florrie are living at 10 Tisbite Street, Bulwell; he is shown as being 26 yrs a tailor, his wife Florrie is shown as 22 yrs. In the same 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at 40 Minerva Street, Bulwell, and are shown as Alfred 57 yrs a hosiery trimmer, who is living with his wife Hannah 58 yrs and their children, Alfred Rufus 29 yrs a hosiery trimmer, Annie 22 yrs a hosiery bleacher, and Gertrude 17 yrs a hosiery bleacher. His father Alfred died on 9th May 1923 aged 68 yrs and his mother Hannah died 11th July 1924 aged 71 yrs.

2/5th Bn King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
Private Albert Edward Naylor enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2/5th battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 23rd May 1917; he has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Arras memorial. His family give his date of death as 21st May 1917 on both the 'In memoriam' notice and the family grave, although military sources give the date as 23rd May 1917.
Nottingham Evening Post In Memoriam 21 May 1918: 'Naylor. In loving memory of my dear husband Pte. A E Naylor, killed in action May 21st 1917. - From his sorrowing wife and three children.'
