George William Sharpe (various spellings of Sharp depending on document) was born in 1897 in Bulwell known as William to his family he was the son of William a brick yard labourer and Eliza Ann Sharpe née Ward of 17 Bradford Street, Bulwell, Nottingham. His father was born in 1867 at Carlton and his mother Eliza Ann Ward was born in 1866 in Ripley, they were married in 1890, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District. They went on to have 10 children, 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were all born in Bulwell and were Eliza Ann b1893, Elizabeth b1896, George William b1897, Violet b1899, Beatrice b1901, Samuel b19105 and Winifred b1907. In the 1911 census the family are living at 17 Bradford Street, Bulwell and are shown as William 44 yrs a brick yard labourer, he is living with his wife Eliza 45 yrs and their children Eliza Ann 18 yrs a domestic servant, Elizabeth 15 yrs a hosiery finisher, William 14 yrs a coal miner, Violet 12 yrs a scholar, Beatrice 10 yrs a scholar, Samuel 6 yrs a scholar and Winifred 4 yrs. .

1st Bn Northumberland Fusiliers
Lance Corporal 22678 William Sharp enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 1st battalion Northumberland Fusiliers he was killed in action on 13th December 1917 in France his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France (his family grave states he was interred at Nortel Villes Cemetery, near the Somme. ) he was 20 years of age.
