Bulwell Nottingham
He was the son of Thomas and Hannah Unwin and the brother of Sidney, Joe, Henry, Mary and Robert Unwin. In 1911 they lived at 32 Hart Street Bulwell Nottingham. The later CWGC record gives his parents' address as 35 Hart Street, Bulwell.
In 1911 he was a lace dresser.

16th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Samuel Unwin, served with the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment. He died of wounds on 13th November 1916. He is buried in Bouzincourt Communal Cemetery Extension (grave ref. I.1.3).
'In memoriam' notice published 13th November 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post “UNWIN. – In loving memory of Pte. Samuel Unwin, Sherwood Foresters, died of wounds November 13th, 1916. No one knows how much we miss him, none but aching hearts can tell; the circle of our home is broken, but God does all things well. – From his loving mother, brothers Joe, Robert (in France), Cyril, and sister Mary. “UNWIN. – In loving memory of Private Samuel Unwin, Sherwood Foresters, who died November 13th, 1916, from wounds received on the Somme.
