9th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
John enlisted in Nottingham. He was with 9th Bn Sherwood Foresters on Gallipoli and in Egypt, moving to France with them in July 1916. He fought on the Somme and at Messines before the battalion moved to the Ypres Salient. He was wounded when the battalion attacked Poelcappelle on 4 October 1917. He was sent via the medical chain to one of Boulogne's hospitals. He died of his wounds on 14 October 1917 and was buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, grave VIII. I. 54 John Morse
