John was the son of William a domestic gardener and Mary Ann Breedon (née Lawson). His parents were born at Lowdham, William in 1860 Mary in 1859. They were married in the Southwell Registration district in 1882 and had eight children, three of whom died in infancy or childhood prior to 1911. Their surviving children, all born at Lowdham, were Ethel Kate b.1885, Mary Jane b.1887, John b.1890, Arthur b.1893, and William Breedon. In 1911 they lived on Plough Lane Lowdham. John married Mary Ann Marson in 1916 and they lived at Lambley Road Lowdham.
In 1911 he was a spade hand.

10th Bn Lincolnshire Regiment
John Breedon enlisted at Lowdham and initially served (41416) in the Lancashire Fusiliers later transferring to 10th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment (Grimsby Chums). He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Bay 3 & 4
In memoriam published 28th April 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BREEDON. – In proud and loving memory of our dear son and brother, Pte. J. Breedon, Lowdham, presumed killed April 28th, 1917, 10th Lincolns. Still to memory dear.
