George William Dickinson was born on 4th March 1896 at Lowdham and was baptised on 5th April 1896 at St Marys Church, Lowdham, he was the son of Samuel a blacksmith and Mary Elizabeth Dickinson née Beecroft of Main Street, Lowdham. His father Samuel was born in 1860 at Lowdham and his mother Mary Elizabeth Beecroft was born in 1860 at Bleasby, they were married on 4th August 1885 at St Marys Church, Lowdham, they went on to have the following children, Jane Elizabeth b1886 Lowdham, Sam b1888 Lowdham, Fred b1892 Burton Joyce, Kate b1894 Basfford, George b1896 Lowdham and Alfred b1900 Lowdham. In the 1911 census the family lived on Main Street Lowdham and were shown as Samuel 51yrs a blacksmith he is living with his wife Mary Elizabeth 51 yrs and their children, Fred 19 yrs a butcher, Kate 17 yrs a domestic servant, George 15 yrs a day boy and Alfred 11 yrs a scholar.
In 1911 he was a day boy.

Private George Dickinson enlisted at Melton Mowbray whilst residing at Plunger, Leicestershire, he initially served with the service number 4634 in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He was serving with the 4th battalion Yorkshire Regiment when he was killed in action 0n 23rd March 1918. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.
