Thomas Furley (junior) was born on 15th January 1887 at Tenbury, Worcestershire and was the son of Thomas (senior) a market gardener and Mary Elizabeth Furley née Haslam of Lowdham village. His father Thomas (senior) was born in 1849 at Wooton under Edge and his mother Mary Elizabeth Haslam was born in 1858 at Lowdham, they were married on 25th February 1886 at St Marys Church Lowdham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were , Thomas b1887 Tenbury, William b1889 Tenbury, Arthur b1891 Tenbury, Harold b1893 Lowdham, Ada b1897 Lowdham, Frederick b1900 Lowdham and Augustus Furley b1900 Lowdham. In the 1911 census the family are living at Lowdham village and are shown as Thomas Furley 62 yrs a market gardener, he is living with his wife Mary 53 yrs and their children, Thomas 24 yrs a house painter, William 22 yrs a stone mason, Arthur 20 yrs a blacksmith, Harold 18 yrs working at home, Ada 14 yrs a scholar, Frederick 11 yrs a scholar and Augustus 11 yrs a scholar. Thomas (junior) married his wife Olive Beatrice Shelton (born 18th December 1890) in 1912 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration district, they lived at Epperstone Road, Lowdham. Olive brought a child to the marriage Phillip Thomas Shelton born 9th October 1910, they went on to have the following children, Harold William born 22nd January 1913, Cyril Arthur born 22nd November 1914 and Dorothy born 1st March 1917. Follow the death of Thomas Furley (junior) his widow Olive was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 9th June 1919.
He was a house painter.

Private Thomas Furley enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He died of wounds on 9th November 1918 and is buried at Caudry British Cemetery, Nord, France.
