William Henry Swallow was born in 1885 at Norwell and was the son of William a cattleman on a farm and Mary Jane Swallow née Johnson of Hunters Hill Cottages, Lowdham. His father William was born in 1856 at Norwell and his mother Mary Jane Johnson was born in 1869 at Oxton they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell registration district, they went on to have the 7 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their children were, Annie Elizabeth b1891 Askham, Lancashire, John George b1892 Askham, Lancashire, William Henry b1885 Norwell, Annie Elizabeth b1891 Norwell, Florrrie b1903 Oxton and Mary b1908 In the 1911 census the family lived at Hunter's Hill Cottages Lowdham and were shown as William 51 yrs a cattleman on a farm, he is living with his wife Mary Jane 42 yrs and their children, William 25 yrs a chimney sweep, Florrie 8 yrs a scholar and Mary 3yrs of age, also living with them was a niece Mary Edith 4 months of age.
He was a chimney sweep.

Private William Henry Swallow enlisted at Lowdham he initially served with the service number 44726 in the Prince of Wales's (North Staffordshire Regiment) he was serving with the 2nd battalion Lancashire Regiment when he was killed in action on 23rd October 1916. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
