Brindley Cheshire
John was born in 1896 in Bridley Acton,Cheshire and was the son of Thomas a general labourer and Lucy Stockton, of Brindley Lea, Nantwich, Cheshire. Thomas and Lucy had a large family of 8 children : - Alice, Charles, John Thomas, Frederick, Rhona, Carrie Letty and Ernest. In the 1901 census the family are living at Brindley Lea, Brindley and by the 1911 census are still living at the same address, however John has left home, he is 15 years of age and is a servant working as a general farm worker and living with Agnes Dutton a widow and farmer and her family at Ash House, Brindley.

1st Bn Cheshire Regiment
John enlisted at Chester and served with the 1st Battalion Cheshire Regiment. His medal index card shows that he first entered a theatre of war in France on 20th April 1915. He died of wounds less that a month later on 1st May 1915 and he is buried in Ramparts Cemetery, Lille Gate (grave ref D.24)
