William Lawrence Savidge was born in 1898 he was the only son of Charles a builders labourer and Florence Savidge née Robinson, of 113, Pym St., Nottingham Charles and Florence Robinson were both born in 1874, Charles in Nottingham and Florence in Derby, they were married in 1897 in Derby. In the 1911 census the family are living at 113 Pym Street, Nottingham, Charles 37 yrs is a builders labourer he is living with his wife 37 yrs and their son William Lawrence 13 yrs a scholar, also living with them is Lizzie Savidge 74 yrs a widow and is William's grandfather.
Member of 2nd Nottingham Company Boys' Brigade (Dakeyne Street Lads' Club).

Private William Lawrence Savidge enlisted at Nottingham, He landed in France on 28th June 1915. Awarded 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Killed in the attack on Gommecourt on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, and buried Foncquevillers Military Cemetery (grave ref I.L.37). He shares a grave with Private PRS Coppock, Lincolnshire Regiment (1 July 1916) and a soldier believed to be Private WH Cope, RAMC (1 July 1916). Part of the battalion's Lewis gun detachment.
