Memorial gardens, Main Street/Newark Road, Ollerton. The site was donated by Lord Savile of Rufford Abbey who also paid for the laying out of the site as a 'pleasure garden'. The money for the memorial was raised by public subscription. The memorial in Hopton-Wood stone was designed and constructed by R Thompson, monumental mason of Ollerton, at a cost of £179. 13s 10d with an additional sum of £40 to lay out the site including a concrete base. The memorial was unveiled by Lady Savile and dedicated by Rev Canon GJA d'Arcy, rural dean of Worksop, on 30 September 1920. (Nottinghamshire Archives ref PR 1869-1875). Dedication: 'Erected by the inhabitants of Ollerton to the glory of God and in grateful memory of those who gave their lives for their country in the Great War 1914-1918 (names).' The names of men from the village who died in the Second World War have been added to the memorial together with the name of a soldier killed in Northern Ireland in 1989. Nottinghamshire County Council awarded a grant of £20,000 in 2011 to clean the memorial, restore and clean the gates and railings and resurface the pathways. The Royal British Legion installed a stained glass window in the parish church of St Giles in the year 2000; the window depicts the memorial cross.
