Oxton - St Peter's Church (memorial window)

Church of St Peter & St Paul, Main Street, Oxton, NG25 0SA. Inscription on stained glass window: 'In grateful memory of those fallen in the Great War 1914-1919 (names). Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.' The memorial window was unveiled and dedicated by the Bishop of Southwell on 1 February 1920. Nottingham Evening Post, Tuesday 3 February 1920: ‘Oxton War Memorial. Part of the war memorial at Oxton has taken the form of a beautiful east window in the church provided by the subscriptions of residents and friends of Oxton. The Bishop of Southwell unveiled and dedicated the window at a special service held in the church on Sunday [1 February]. There has also been presented to Oxton church the ensign which Captain Sherbrooke DSO, floated on his ship in Mesopotamia.
