The Nottingham Rowing Club memorial also commemorates members who served and returned. The dedication to those who died reads: 'Eternal honour give to those how died in that dull splendour of heroic pride that we might live.' Nottingham Evening Post, Saturday 18 December 1920: ‘Memorial to Nottingham Oarsmen: ‘This afternoon Sir John Turney unveiled a memorial tablet to the 25 members of the Nottingham Rowing Club who fell in the wall. The tablet has been erected at the club’s headquarters on the Trent.’ (www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk). The Club held a memorial service at Nottingham St Mary's Church on Sunday 9 February 1919 at 3pm 'for members of the Rowing Club who have fallen in the war'. The Rev Canon Field DD, Vicar of St Mary's officiated. (Nottinghamshire Archives, NRC minute book 1912-1919 DD/865/1/10). The Nottingham Rowing Club (established 1862) and the Nottingham Union Rowing Club (established 1871) amalgamated in 1946 to form the Nottingham and Union Rowing Club.
