St Thomas Avenue, Kirkby in Ashfield, NG17 7DX. The church was built on land donated by the Duke of Portland and the foundation stone laid by the Duke in July 1901. The church was consecrated by the Bishop of Southwell in May 1903. The east window is dedicated to parishioners who served in the war and was funded by public subscription, and two wooden panels commemorate the ten men who died one of whom, Captain Ricketts, is also commemorated on a family memorial in the church.   • A five light stained glass window was installed at the east end to commemorate members of the church who served in the Great War. At the bottom of the window is the dedication: ’To the Glory of God and in memory of the members of this church who served in the Great War 1914-1919.‘ There are no names. Photograph Peter Gillings.
