Unveiled on June 29th 2018, this memorial commemorates Carlton's fallen from two world wars and subsequent conflicts. Paul Gunter, uncle of local Royal Marine Lance Corporal Martin J Gill, killed in Afghanistan in 2011, raised £19,000 in his nephew's honour and National Lottery Heritage Funding contributed £10,000. Cut from granite, a hexagonal column and plinth stand beneath a cap with latin inscriptions translating as 'By Land', 'By Sea', 'By Air', 'Everywhere Whither Right And Glory Lead'. Three panels pay homage to 122 Great War fatalities, two honour 59 men from World War Two whilst 4 locals killed since 1945 are also remembered. Gedling Borough Council is responsible for maintenance. David Nunn
