He was the son of James and Emma Wakefield and the brother of James, William H, Harriet, Richard, Joseph, Betsy and Harry Wakefield. In 1881, they lived at 12, Washington Street, Colwick Street, St Mary's and in 1891 at 27, South Street, Sneinton (both Nottingham). He was the husband of Eliza Ann Wakefield and the father of James Charles, Harold Jonathan, Hilda May, Ernest Vincent, Ida Marie and Eveline Wakefield. In 1911, they lived at 3, St George's Street, Walker Street, Sneinton and later at 41, Young Street, Blue Bell Hill, (both Nottingham).
In 1891, he was a picture moulder and in 1911 a warehouseman.
