Arrived in France 12/08/1914. Killed in action in Ypres Salient less than three weeks later. His body was never found, but his name was commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 12 November 1914: 'ARCHER killed in action on October 28th, on his birthday, Fred Archer of the Coldstream Guards, age 31. Son of E Archer, 165 St Ann's Well Road.' Family headstone, Nottingham Church (Rock) Cemetery: 'Also her son [Elizabeth Archer] Fred Archer killed in action October 28th 1914, aged 31 years. Some day we'll understand.'
