Father John T. Watts, born in 1877 in Derby and working as a brick carter before becoming a coal hewer. Mother: Ada Watts, born in 1875 in Derby. Sister: Emily, born in 1902 at Derby. The family lived at & Truman Street, Ilkeston Junction, Derbyshire before moving to 7 Swanwick Street, St. Ann's Well Road, Nottingham.
John T. Watts worked as carter before becoming a colliery underground pony driver.

17th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Pte. Watts volunteered for service and attested on 06/06/1915 at Nottingham. He was posted to 17th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters the same day. He embarked for France on 06/03/1916. The battalion was engaged in fighting at the very start of the Third battle of Ypres and Pte. Watts was killed in action. He was buried at Track X Cemetery, near Ypres.
