Old Basford
Percy Henson was born in 1896 in Old Basford Nottingham and was the son of the late Albert Edward a clerk in a dye works and Sarah Ann Henson, née Walker of 54 Waterford Street, Old Basford, Nottingham. His father was born in 1867 in Nottingham and his mother Sarah Ann Walker was born in Nottingham in 1868, they were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have 10 children, 1 of whom sadly died in infancy, their surviving children all born in Old Basford were : Clarice b1887, Albert Edward b1889, Florence b1891, John b1895, Percy b1896, Hilda b1898, Elsie b1900, Daisy May b1903 and Bertha b1907. His father Albert Edward Henson died in 1906 in Nottingham , he was 39 yrs of age. In the 1911 census the family are living at 54 Waterford Street, Nottingham and are shown as Sarah Ann Henson 43 yrs a widow and curtain mender, she is living with her children Clarice 24 yrs a lace cotton drawer, Albert Edward 22 yrs a hosiery bleacher, Percy 18 yrs (sic) a hosiery worker, John 17 yrs a coal miner, Daisy May 8 yrs and Bertha 4 yrs.
in the 1911 census he is a hosiery worker.

1st Bn South Staffordshire Regiment
Private Percy Henson, enlisted at Nottingham and served with “D” Company, 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 12th May 1917. His name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
Death notices published 5th June 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HENSON. – Killed in action, May 12th, 1917, Private Percy Henson, South Staffordshire, aged 24, of 54, Waterford-street, Old Basford. A noble life laid down. – From his sorrowing mother, sister, and brothers. “HENSON. – Killed in action, May 12th, Private Percy Henson, South Staffordshires. He did his duty. – From uncle, aunt, cousins Wilfred (Stanley in France). – C. Marshall, Stapleford. “HENSON. – Killed in action, May 12th, Private Percy Henson, South Staffordshires. Duty nobly done. – From grandfather, uncle, aunts, and sister Elsie, 50, Church-street, Old Basford. “HENSON. – Killed in action, May 12th, 1917, Private Percy Henson, South Staffordshires.
