He was the son of Albert and Mary Jane Moseley and the brother of Albert jnr, Fanny Ethel, Ada, Mabel, Florence, Harold and Elizabeth Moseley. In 1911 they lived at 36 Crown Street Nottingham. They later moved to 64 Alfred Street Nottingham. His mother, Mary Jane, died on 26 January 1927 aged 61 years and his father, Albert Alfred, on 10 July 1929 aged 64 years.
In 1911 he worked as a framework knitter.

Inscription on family headstone, Carlton Cemetery, Nottingham: 'In loving memory of Mary Jane, the beloved wife of Albert Alfred Moseley, died Jany 26th 1927, aged 61 years. Also the above Albert Alfred beloved husband of the above, who died July 10th 1929, aged 64 years. Also their son Rifleman Walter Moseley killed in action France, Augst. 18th, 1916, aged 23 yeasr. reunited. Also Maureen Mary, darling baby of George and Elizabeth Price, great grandchild of the above, fell asleep July 28th 1946 aged 10 weeks. Only lent.' Additional tablet: 'A tribute of love. Albert George Price, who died July 29th. 1995 aged 78 years. Grandson of the above father of John, and the above Maureen Mary, dearest husband of Elizabeth, who died June 7th 205, aged 91 years. To have, to love, to lose, and when God wills, to find.' Nottingham Evening Post, 'In memoriam' (abridged), 2 September 1916: 'Moseley, killed in action August 18th, Rifleman Walter Moseley King's Royal Rifle Corps, age 23 of 64 Alfred Street South. Father, mother, brothers, sisters.'
