Son of Mr. T. and Mrs. J. Stones, of 39, Beverley St., Nottingham (CWGC). Thomas was their only son. At the time of the 1911 census the family was living at 18 Independent Hill, Sneinton, Thomas (45) was a brickyard labourer and his wife, Jane, (45) a lacehand. In the house at the time of the census were their children, Thomas (15), Florrie (17) and Jane (6) and a married daughter, Maggie (20) and granddaughter, also called Maggie (2).
He was a member of 2nd Nottingham Company Boys' Brigade (Dakeyne Street Lads' Club). At the time of the 1911 census he was an office boy.

He is buried in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen (grave ref B.21.47).
Nottingham Post obituary (abridged) 18 September 1916: 'Stones. Died of wounds September 15th 1916, Lance Corporal Thomas Stone, Sherwood Foresters, age 20. Only son of Mr and Mrs Stones. Mother, father, sisters, and sister Maggie.'
