Lawrence was born in Nottingham 9th November 1891 and was the son of Charles Pitt a tailor and Edith Maud Pitt née Brooks. He was christened on 20th December 1891 at St Peters Church, Nottingham His father Charles Pitt was born in 1869 in Lowdham and his mother Edith Maud Brooks was born in Liverpool in 1867. They were married in Nottingham 26th January 1891, they went on to have 6 children :- Lawrence b1891 Nottingham, Refina b1894 Lowdham, Ernest John b1896 Nottingham, Clarice b1899 Lowdham, Edith Ellen b1901 Lowdham and Daisy b1904. In the 1901 census the family were living at Station Road Lowdham His father Charles died in 1903 in Nottingham he was aged 34 yrs. In 1911 census they lived at 46 Marple Street Alfred Street North Nottingham and are shown as :- Edith Maud Pitt 34 yrs a widow, head of the family, she is living with her six children , Lawrence 19 yrs a solicitors clerk, Refina 17 yrs a frilling in a lace warehouse, Ernest John 14 yrs a chemist errand lad, Clarice 11 yrs, Edith 9 yrs and Daisy 7 yrs.
He was a solicitor's clerk in 1911.

98th Field Coy Royal Engineers
Sergeant Lawrence Pitt enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 98th Field Company Royal Engineers, he landed in France on 11th September 1915. He was killed in action on 22nd February 1916 and is buried in Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, Nord, France, grave reference IXF 61
Obituary published on 21st February 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post reads :- “PITT. - In loving memory of Sergt. Lawrence Pitt, R.E., killed in action February 22nd, 1916, age 24. - Sadly missed by his loving mother, sisters, and brother Above obituary is courtesy of Jim Grundy and his facebook pages Small Town Great War Hucknall 1914-1918
