10991 Lance Sergeant John Horace Blake 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nott's and Derby Regiment) He went with the battalion to France on 4/11/1914 and was either a regular or reservist (man with number 10992 enlisted 21/10/08, 1st battalion) The battalion entered the front line trenches on 15th September, Boise Grenier Sector, No 3 Section. They were relieved on 19th and back in billets by 8.30 pm that day. John would have received his wounds between these dates. Taken back to the casualty clearing station at Merville were he died. During September the battalion had 84 other ranks killed and 73 wounded or missing.
